Tug of War: Part Two

Life is difficult. Each day we face two different worlds: an outside world & and an inside world. Each world vying for our attention and focus.

Last week Pastor Larry began a two-part series titled Tug of War, by breaking down how the outside world affects and influences our life.  In this week’s message, he concluded this mini-series by breaking down how the inside world can affect and influence our life by taking a unique look at a classic hymn.

How do we manage the outside world coming in and affecting our lives in a negative manner?

Ephesians 5:15-20 NIV
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

There is a parallel God is showing us between a person who is intoxicated and a person who is filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • Intoxicated people are Friendly - Being filled with The Spirit, you are friendly
  • Intoxicated people are Out Going - When we are filled with the spirt we should be outgoing
  • Intoxicated people love to give - Those filled with the Holy Spirit love to give
  • Intoxicated people find everything to be funny/No Worries - When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we should be filled with joy and have no worries
  • Intoxicated people believe in themselves (They can do Anything or Be Anything) - When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we have the boldness & confidence of Jesus Christ
  • Intoxicated people are never embarrassed - When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are unashamed of the gospel of Christ
  • Intoxicated people can be lead - When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are led by the Holy Spirit

There is no stress or anxiety! 
It is just well with their Soul!

When peace like a river attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to know,
It is well, It is well with my soul

How do we guard our hearts and mind?
  • Walk in the Spirit and be Filled with the Spirit - Sing to Yourself
  • Think and Filter everything through the word Of God

Philippians 4:4-8 NIV
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Impact Fall Retreat is an action packed weekend of worship, messages, games, food, and connecting with friends from across our region.

This year will be located at the Heartland Conference Retreat Center. Cost per student is $110 per student and that covers transportation, Lodging, Food, & the Retreat.

The deadline to register is this Sunday, November 7th

Our Outreach Team does an amazing job serving our community with consistency and in practical ways by going out into the community and reaching people right where they are!  Adopt-a-Block, which happens every Saturday from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, is just one of the ways our team serves our community each week.  If you would like to get involved and learn more about what our outreach team is doing each week, visit the link below!

  • Thanksgiving Meal Donation
    • The Look Up Center is organizing the annual Thanksgiving Meal for our community members, November 25, 2021.

  • O’ Holy Night 5K Fundraiser | December 5, 2021 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM | TJ Evans Athletic Complex
    • All proceeds will benefit the Look Up Center.
      $20 pre-registration fee or $25 day of event.  Registration fee includes t-shirt and hydration stations.
