Ditches Rob Us Of Confidence

Have you ever felt that you lack confidence? Or have you ever felt that you’re stuck in a ditch and can’t seem to get out?

Check out this week's message, brought by Angie, Jake, and Audrey Pennington, each with their own unique teaching style, and hear what they have to say about how ditches rob us of confidence.

Message Notes

If you don’t find yourself outside of your comfort zone, you will never gain confidence.

You can’t stay where you are and go to where god has called you.

1 Samuel 17:17 (NLT)
One day Jesse said to David, “Take this basket of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread, and carry them quickly to your brothers.”

1 Timothy 4:12 (NLT)
“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.”

Confidence follows consistency

1 Samuel 17:34-36 (NLT)
“But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God!”

When your confidence begins to grow, don’t be surprised if you face conflict.

1 Samuel 17:34-36 (NLT)
“But when David’s oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. “What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded. “What about those few sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!”

Your confidence is tied to your connections.

1 Samuel 20:8-9 (NLT)
“Show me this loyalty as my sworn friend—for we made a solemn pact before the Lord—or kill me yourself if I have sinned against your father. But please don’t betray me to him!” Never!” Jonathan exclaimed. “You know that if I had the slightest notion my father was planning to kill you, I would tell you at once.”

Lack of Confidence robs us of walking in HIS promises.

There is no striving when we learn to rely fully on the Lord.

Faith that it’s going to turn out the way God wants it to.

Genesis 18:10-15 (NLT)
“Then one of them said, “I will return to you about this time next year, and your wife, Sarah, will have a son!” Sarah was listening to this conversation from the tent. Abraham and Sarah were both very old by this time, and Sarah was long past the age of having children. So she laughed silently to herself and said, “How could a worn-out woman like me enjoy such pleasure, especially when my master—my husband—is also so old?” Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, ‘Can an old woman like me have a baby?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” Sarah was afraid, so she denied it, saying, “I didn’t laugh.” But the Lord said, “No, you did laugh.”

Doubt creates division

Patience: I’m going to wait as long as it takes for it to happe

Genesis 21:1-2 (NLT)
“The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised. She became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age. This happened at just the time God had said it would.”

Faith: It is going to turn out the way God wants it to.
Patience: I am going to wait as long as it takes for it to happen.

We may not know the end of our story, but we can hold onto hope of the word and promises of God.

John 12:27-28 (TPT)
“Even though I am torn within, and my soul is in turmoil, I will not ask the Father to rescue me from this hour of trial. For I have come to fulfill my purpose —to offer myself to God. So, Father, bring glory to your name!” Then suddenly a booming voice was heard from the sky, “I have glorified my name! And I will glorify it through you again!”
