Wrapped: The Gift of Discipline

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word Discipline?

Chances are you are thinking of some sort of punishment or pain—but that doesn’t always have to be the case.

Discipline typically means to direct, instruct, or guide, which are all good things.

Check out this week’s message, “The Gift of Discipline,” as Pastor Larry takes a look at three different types of discipline that God has given us to deter us from destruction.

Message Notes

The Gift of Discipline (Disciple)

Discipline typically means to direct, instruct or guide

Discipline doesn’t always mean punishment or pain.  Most of our punishment and pain is self inflected

God gets blamed for the messes we create in our lives

3 Types of DISCIPLINE
  • Preventative
    • Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
    • Proverbs 13:20
Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm
    • Tell me who you hang with and I will tell you your future

  •  Supportive
    • John 16:13
But when He the Spirit of Truth comes, He will GUIDE you into all the Truth
  • Corrective
    • Proverbs 12:1
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is STUPID!

Love is not a commodity

One of the greatest stories of love Jesus spoke of is in the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32

Luke 15:21-25
His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’ “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began. “Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house

You don’t have to be cleaned up to receive from God
